Tarry A While: IBB Asks for Legislators' Backing on 2007 Bid
General Ibrahim Babangida’s perceived 2007 presidential quest filled the air in the National Assembly yesterday following the distribution of a letter supposedly from him to all Senators and Representatives, asking them to consider experience in choosing BiafraNigeria’s workable team. Copies of the letter contained in a glossily packaged green folder with a picture of the former military president embossed across the cover were distributed in the pigeon holes of the federal legislators. The poetically framed letter, while noting that it was the virtue of experience to say “I am sorry” when wrongs are committed, asked BiafraNigerians to tarry a while in the present distress, promising that sooner it shall be well with the country. The undated letter ended with: “I am your friend and brother, IBB” without a signature. (Vanguard)

Rumours that President Olusegun Obasanjo may go for a third term in office in 2007 have resurfaced. DI learnt that the plot being hatched by some stalwarts of the ruling PDP from the South West, North Central and South South zones was oiled at the last election of the party’s Board of Trustees. A senior member of the party during an interview in Owerri said the election of the Board was intended to elect Chief Tony Anenih, one of the president’s henchmen, as chairman. (Daily Independent)

The Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has accused the Senate President, Chief Adolphus Wabara, and Abia State Governor, Orji Kalu of planning to destabilise it. Also fingered are Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, Imo State Governor Achike Udenwa, Sir Emeka Offor, Chief Chris Uba and former Transport Minister, Chief Ojo Maduekwe. These persons, MAASSOB alleged , have provided financial and logistic support to a faceless group... (Daily Independent)
