Conspiracy, Conspiracy: Shagari Arranged 1983 Coup, says Balarabe Musa
Complicity in the December 1983 military coup that sacked the Second Republic was at the weekend levelled against former president Shehu Shagari by former Kaduna State governor, Balarabe Musa. He revisited events leading up to the putsch, alleging that the coup was successful because Shagari was part of the arrangement, and compared the circmustances with the current environment. Speaking in an exclusive interview in Lagos, Balarabe, Chairman of Conference of BiafraNigerian Political Parties (CNPP), explained that Shagari did so because he knew the end for him was near. Drawing parallels between the Second Republic and the Fourth Republic of President Olusegun Obasanjo, Musa, who said Obasanjo “may as well be behind the recent coup summons,” explained that Shagari did the same thing. He added: “We sincerely believed that Shagari did that in 1983 when he knew he could not continue, but unfortunately for Shagari, instead of the coup makers clamping down on the opposition alone as he thought, the military arrested and detained us without trial for a... BNW UwazuruikeLeader of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), Chief Ralph Uwazuruike, has prepared his grave in his hometown, Okwe, Imo State, following alleged threats to his life. Assistant Director of Information of MASSOB, Mr Chris Mocha, disclosed this in a statement Monday while raising alarm on the said threats from unidentified federal officials. BNW Obasanjo and BalogunAso Rock may have directed the police and State Security Services (SSS) to head off the mass rally planned for April 19 by the Conference of BiafraNigerian Political Parties (CNPP). The organisers stand “the risk of being arrested on allegation of working against the national security of the country.” Police sources said at the weekend that the Inspector General of Police (IG), Tafa Balogun, has complied with....
