Anenih vs. Orji Uzor Kalu: Demand for apology, a big joke – Abia Govt
The Abia State government on Thursday said it would not succumb to blackmail in the matter of public apology being demanded by the former Works and Housing Minister, Chief Tony Anenih, from Governor Orji Uzor Kalu in their ongoing political feud. The Abia State position was informed by an earlier demand by Anenih that the Peoples Democratic Party Board of Trustees chairman will only accept a public apology from Kalu as a condition for an end to the feud between both men. Abia State Commissioner for Special Duties, Chief Chuka Odom, told our correspondents in a telephone interview, on Thursday, that the state government had just received (on Thursday) a letter from the National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party, demanding an apology. The letter was signed by the party’s Chairman, Chief Audu Ogbeh. Odom, reiterating the state government’s position that the request for apology was “a huge joke,” noted that the party’s involvement in the issue was “of their (party’s) own volition as the governor’s letter.... Tim Berners-LeeThe inventor of the World Wide Web, Tim Berners-Lee of Britain, was on Thursday awarded the first Millennium Technology Prize worth one million euros (1.67 million dollars), the jury said. "The Web has significantly enhanced many people's ability to obtain information central to their lives," Pekka Tarjanne, former secretary-general of the International Telecommunication Union and chairman of the award selection committee, said in a statement. 'The Web is encouraging new.... (Punch)


OgomudiaThe Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Alexander Ogomudia, yesterday confirmed that an alleged coup attempt had taken place and announced the setting up of a Special Investigation Panel (SIP) on it. Briefing newsmen in Abuja yesterday, General Ogomudia said the SIP would unravel the plot and identify those involved in it, "the pattern it would take, the sponsors, the brains behind the plot and the leadership."
