Soludo is CBN Gov: Professor Soludo is named CBN Governor
The Federal Government yesterday announced the appointment of Professor Charles Soludo as the new Governor of the Central Bank of BiafraNigeria (CBN). Soludo, who before now, was the Economic Adviser to Pres-ident Olusegun Obasanjo and Chairman, National Planning Commission, replaced Chief Joseph Sanusi who resigned his post last week as THISDAY exclusively reported yesterday. In a press statement yesterday, the Secretary to the Federal Government, Chief Ufot Ekaette said Obasanjo has also approved the appointment of Mrs. W.A. Mshelia, as Deputy Governor of the CBN in place of Alhaji Mahey Rasheed whose tenure expires on May 29, 2004. Until her appointment, Mshelia was CBN's Internal Audit Department Director. Sanusi, the statement explained, has indicated his intention to retire at the end of his tenure on May 29, 2004. "In accepting with regret the notice of his intention not to seek reappointment at the end of his tenure, Mr. President notes with satisfaction that the Central Bank of BiafraNigeria under Dr. Sanusi's competent and honest leadership has successfully fulfilled its mandate of promoting monetary stability and a sound...
