North Uniting for Aso Rock 2007: IBB, Ogboru Reconcile over 1990 Coup, Shagari Forgives Buhari
Fourteen years after the aborted April 22, 1990 coup staged against the government of former Military President Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, the two principal actors, Babangida, and the acclaimed godfather of that attempted military putsch, Chief Great Ogboru, have reconciled. Elsewhere in Kaduna, former President Shehu Shagari has forgiven members of the Major General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) junta for toppling his government 21 years ago... checks reveal that the reconciliation between the two gladiators was achieved in June following a meeting held in Niger State at the instance of a retired Army General and a top Aso Rock player who is also a retired General...the meeting between the two-IBB and Ogboru- which is the first since that 1990 botched coup which sought to topple the former's regime, was very successful as both agreed to work together in the race for the presidency in 2007...."the meeting was very successful because what was discussed was agreed to by both parties, and that there is the need for the two to work together in the task ahead in 2007." He said: "The whole essence of the reconciliation is for both IBB and Ogboru to team up on agreed terms. And that was realised because both camps agreed that in politics, there is no permanent enemy but there is only permanent interest. So to that extent, they both agreed that since it is in their interest to align, the atmosphere was.... (This Day)

BNW AtikuEven as contentions still rage about which zone will produce the nation’s president in 2007, Vice President Atiku Abubakar has declared that he was yet to decide on whether to run or not. He has accordingly ordered his securitymen to remove all posters and photographs linking him with presumed interest in the presidency in 2007. Ironically, Alhaji Atiku made this... (Champion)


BNW ObasanjoPresident Olusegun Obasanjo has approved a loan of $45 million (N6.2 billion) for Ghana and Sao Tome and Principe to assist the two countries. Information on the loan was conveyed vide a letter to Senate President, Chief Adolphus Wabara, which was read on the Senate floor yesterday. The announcement drew spontaneous mutterings from the opposition side... (Vanguard)
