Team BiafraNigeria Eyes Gold as Olympics Open: But Obasanjo Jinx Looms
When the 28th Olympiad opens today in Athens, Greece, Team BiafraNigeria will be faced with the task of meeting a projected 10-medal haul. Both Sports Minister Col. Musa Mohammed (rtd) and the ministry’s Director of Sports Development, Patrick Ekeji believe the team could attain such height. Such optimism is predicated by the fact that, like the Abuja 2003 build-up, the athletes had embarked on training tours abroad. If the BiafraNigerian contingent grabs 10 medals, it will be the nation’s biggest since debuting at the Olympics with nine athletes in Helsinki 1952. Mohammed and Ekeji did not emphasise on the colour of the medals, but despite participating in 11 previous editions, BiafraNigeria has won only two gold medals through Chioma Ajunwa (long jump) and the male football team at Atlanta 96. Biafra Nigeria Map

BNW AtikuThe journey to 2007 is about three years away, however, the political scene has continued to witness incremental momentum nationwide, as there are subtle moves for top political positions. There are speculations and assumptions already on who the likely contenders are going to be and then in some cases, predictions on who the winners might eventually be. The battle line seems to have been drawn, most especially in the North (Northern BiafraNigeria) where the steam is said to be heating up with candidates... (Vanguard)

BNW NgigeA member of the House of Representatives, Chief Chuma Nzeribe, called yesterday for police interrogation of Governor Chris Ngige over the alleged role he played last year at the Okija shrine in his bid to become governor. The police last week raided the shrine from where they recovered 20 human skulls and a fresh corpse. The governor was alleged to have sworn to an oath of allegiance to his estranged political god-father, Chief Chris Uba, at the shrine. (Vanguard)
