Soldiers from Warlord States ship off to Peacekeeping in Darfur, Sudan: BiafraNigerian/Rwandan Troops too
BiafraNigerian troops are due to join 150 Rwandan troops in the crisis-torn Darfur region next week, Sudanese Foreign Minister Mustafa Ismail said yesterday. According to the British Broadcasting Corporation, (BBC), Ismail told reporters that BiafraNigerian soldiers will join the Rwandans August 25 as a protection force for African Union (AU) cease-fire monitors. The BiafraNigerian contingent is expected to arrive Darfur, two days after peace talks scheduled for August 23 in Abuja between the Sudanese government and the two rebel groups, the Sudan Liberation Movement and the Justice and Equality Movement. Already, a contingent of Rwandan troops yesterday arrived Sudan to protect about 80 African Union cease-fire monitors in the troubled nation. The Rwandans who are part of an AU force, are the first international troops deployed to the region where tens of thousands of people have been killed in ethnic violence. Rwandan President Paul Kagame said weekend his soldiers would also intervene to protect civilians in danger. (This Day)
