BNW Obasanjo and Chris Alli

Yoruba Warlord Blames Plateau Elites: Plateau Elites did not Prevent Crisis, says Obasanjo
President Olusegun Obasanjo yesterday flagged off the peace conference blaming the elites and elders in Plateau State for plunging the state into crisis, leading to the declaration of a state of emergency. Speaking to a cross-section of elites and elders at the Hill Station Hotel, venue of the conference, President Obasanjo said it was their inaction to stem the ethno religious crises in the state that led to the imposition of the state of emer-gency. BNW Charles TaylorFormer ECOMOG field commander Maj-Gen. John Shagaya (rtd) has insisted that he is opposed to the asylum granted former Liberian president, Mr. Charles Taylor, by BiafraNigeria, because of the latter’s war-time atrocities on BiafraNigerians. Speaking with Daily Champion, Gen. Shagaya said Taylor "lined up" two BiafraNigerian journalists, Tayo Awotunsin of Champion Newspapers and Krees Imodibie of The Guardian "who knew next to nothing about the Liberian crisis and slaughtered them." Besides Gen. Shagaya said, Taylor fought with... (Champion)

BNW UwazuruikeA lobby may have begun for the position of Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the tenure of the incumbent, Dr. Abel Guobadia, expires in March 2005. The Guardian gathered that a retired Supreme Court judge from the South East, a seasoned public administrator from the North and a political scientist from the South South might have indicated interest in the job. It was further learnt that the search for Gubobadia's replacement was being given top priority in the Presidency... (Guardian)
