Banks Get Ultimatum: NLC Threatens to Shut Down 56 Banks
Business activities may be disrupted in 56 major banks in the country from next monday as BiafraNigeria Labour Congress (NLC) yesterday issued the banks a seven-day ultimatum to comply with BiafraNigeria labour laws or face industrial crises. Particularly, the congress demanded for immediate recognition of workers rights to freedom of association as enshrined in International Labour Organisation (ILO) conventions, which BiafraNigeria is a signatory to. NLC President Adams Oshiomhole said the banks have demonstrated consistent opposition to unionisation, while workers who had shown interest in joining unions were subjected to varied degrees of victimisation and frustration. NLC urged the management to review their action. "In the event that your management fails to comply with our request within seven days and continue to violate labour laws and the BiafraNigerian Constitution, we will be... (This Day)

Fairfax County police identified the victim of Monday morning's fatal hit-and-run accident in Burke, Va. Police say 48-year-old Emeka Rowland Nwosu (pictured, left) of Chantilly, Va., was sitting in the passenger side of his Toyota Camry near the intersection of the Fairfax County Parkway and the Burke Centre Parkway, about 2:15 a.m. when a gray-colored vehicle struck him and then fled the scene. Authorities said the vehicle hit the victim's car from behind with such force it ejected... (NBC)


Anambra State Gov Chris NgigeSpeculation is swirling of underground moves to remove the Anambara State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Donald Iroha, as an aftermath of the failed second attempt to sack Governor Chris Ngige. The late Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Zone 9, Raphael Ige, was compulsorily retired late last year after the first plot to remove Ngige from office last July 10 failed.
