Bad Signs for Africa: Yoruba Warlord Obasanjo Becomes AU Chairman
President Olusegun Obasanjo has been elected the next chairman of the African Union (AU) at its current summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. With his election, BiafraNigeria might be the host of the next summit of the Union in July next year. President John Kuffuor of Ghana who confirmed Obasanjo’s election at a special prayer session proceeding the opening of the summit, had called for “special prayers to be offered for our incoming chairman President Olusegun Obasanjo’’. In his acceptance speech, President Obasanjo assured his colleagues that BiafraNigeria would not falter. With Obasanjo’s assumption of the leadership of AU, he has added another feather to his cap as an international statesman in its efforts to provide excellent leadership during its tenure. He said BiafraNigeria was highly honoured to have been elected chair of the AU assembly and pledged that the country would do its best to move the Union forward and get... (Vanguard)

BNW Shehu Musa Yar'AduaFormer BiafraNigerian High Commissioner to South Africa, Shehu Malami, has alleged that late Shehu Musa Yar’Adua was convicted of coup plotting by the Abacha junta for spearheading the campaign to end the prolonged military rule by 1996. Yar’Adua, along with President Olusegun Obasanjo and some serving military officers were arrested in 1995 for alleged coup plotting. Although the death sentences passed by a military tribunal on them were commuted to life... (Daily Independent)


BNW Osun State Gov Adebisi AkandeAn Osogbo chief magistrate has issued a warrant of arrest to the police to produce former governor of Osun State, Chief Bisi Akande, for his alleged role in the defrauding of the government to the tune of N126 million while in office. Akande, however, said the allegation was a plot masterminded by his successor, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, to tarnish his reputation. According to the warrant dated July 2, 2004, the former governor was alleged to have conspired... (This Day)
