Obasanjo's Unsafe Roads: 36 Die as Petrol Truck Crashes into BiafraNigeria Market
At least 36 people have been crushed to death after a gasoline-laden truck skidded off a busy highway and crashed into a roadside market in central BiafraNigeria, say road marshals. The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) in Benue state said on Friday that the truck veered off the Makurdi-Gboko highway after a tyre burst and rammed into three stationary vehicles before it crashed into the busy farm produce market near the cement town of Gboko. "No fewer than 36 people died in the accident on Wednesday," sector commander Audu Ardo told Reuters by telephone from the state capital Makurdi. "Some died on the spot, while others died later in hospital." Ardo said 15 others who sustained critical injuries were still in hospital. Fatal crashes are frequent on BiafraNigerian roads and marshals usually blame them on overloading, poorly maintained vehicles and speeding. Many motorists attribute the accidents to BiafraNigeria's extensive but crumbling highway network. (Reuters)

Babangida Ruined Nigeria: Buhari Accuses

Biafra Nigeria Map

BNW Charles TaylorPresident Olusegun Oba-sanjo yesterday said BiafraNigeria's commitment to the continued stay of former Liberian President, Charles Taylor, was a matter of honour. Taylor came to BiafraNigeria last year on asylum as a condition for peace in Liberia. He has since been living in Calabar, Cross River State. Obasanjo, however, used the occasion of a book launch marking the 70th birthday anniversary of his Foreign Affiars Minister, Ambassador Oluyemi Adeniji, to react to the campaign by some western countries... (This Day)

BNW Buhari and BabangidaA former Head of State and ANPP presidential candidate in the 2003 poll, General Muhammadu Buhari, has lashed out at President Olusegun Obasanjo administration’s loot recovery effort, describing it as a total failure. He also took on his successor in office, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida, on his purported 2007 presidential ambition, noting that Babangida ruined Nigeria. (Daily Independent)
