Fraudulent 2003 Polls: US Considers Sanctions Against BiafraNigeria
The United States is considering a number of measures against BiafraNigeria to show its displeasure at what it describes as a flawed election that returned President Olusegun Obasanjo to power last year. It is also concerned about alleged serious human rights violations by BiafraNigerian security agencies. A State Department source said the American government will continue to monitor events in BiafraNigeria closely and may impose "economic and political sanctions" if identified abuses are not corrected. Among measures being considered is the suspension of further financial and material assistance to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the body that supervised the widely condemned election. America provided materials worth millions of naira to INEC during the last presidential election, but it is disappointed at the way the exercise was handled. The impending sanctions are a fallout of the annual Human Rights report for 2003, released by the State Department... (Daily Independent)

Adolphus WabaraIn the wake of the quarrels that marked the recent senators’ retreat in Port Harcourt, impeachment plot against Senate President, Chief Adolphus Wabara, thickened at the week-end. Those opposed to Senator Wabara’s continuation in office are allegedly tipping two senators, respectively from Anambra and Ebonyi states as possible replacement. The plot against the Senate President was allegedly hatched during the recently-concluded senators’... (Champion)

 

BNW_SenateFresh insight was given into the rowdiness among senators during their just-concluded retreat in Port Harcourt with the allegation that the cancellation of a N127 million windfall for members’ welfare was a major cause. A top manager in the National Assembly bureaucracy who pleaded for anonymity, confided in Daily Champion that the Special Duties Committee which packaged the retreat alongside the NDI...
