Mallam Nasir Ahmedel-Rufai

Probing "Mr. Probity:" El-Rufai dares Senate to probe BPE operations
Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nasir el-Rufai, has thrown down the gauntlet to the Senate to probe the operations of the Bureau for Public Enterprises (BPE) of which he was Director General from 1999 to last year. He dropped the challenge Thursday at the National Assembly complex, Abuja, urging the Upper House to proceed with its plan to open BPE books for any acts of impropriety. Before he became FCT Minister, el-Rufai headed BPE between 1999 and 2003 during which controversies enveloped the privatisation of some government agencies. He met for about an hour with the senators at a closed-door session, presided over by Deputy Senate President, Ibrahim Mantu, after which he was confronted by newsmen who sought his reaction to the Senate move. "Let them probe. The records are there, let them go to BPE”, he said. (Daily Independent)

Senate moves to probe privatisation deals

Me Anyebe, You Ibori - No Confusion?...

The Senate yesterday resolved to probe all past transactions handled by the National Council on Privatisation and identify individuals and organisations possessing the privatised national assets. The Senate’s resolution to use an ad-hoc committee to probe the privatisation programme, according to Deputy Senate President, Ibrahim Mantu, followed the incompetence of the Senator Isaiah Balat-led Committee on Privatisation. In a swift response, Sen. Bello ... accused Sen. Mantu of waging a vendetta... (Vanguard)

James IboriIn a dramatic twist to a case involving Delta State Governor, Chief James Ibori vs Goodnews Agbi and Anthony Alabi, one Shuaibu Anyebe in a sworn affidavit yesterday at an Abuja High Court claimed he was convicted by the Upper Area Court, Bwari the same day the same court convicted one James Onanefe Ibori. He also denied granting any media interview where he was quoted as saying that he and not James Ibori was convicted. (This Day)
