Sunday Afolabi

Warlord Aide Dies in London Hospital: Yoruba Mourn Sunday Afolabi
An eerie silence enveloped on Monday the new Bodija, Ibadan residence of former Internal Affairs Minister, Sunday Afolabi, as news of his death filtered in. His widow, Beatrice, fought back tears as she sat in the midst of sympathisers. Both Governors Rashidi Ladoja (Oyo State) and Olagunsoye Oyinlola (Osun State) described his death as a rude shock, coming at a time of encouraging reports about his recovery from his sick bed in London. "SM’s death came to us as a rude shock giving that he was already recovering from his illness. This is a confirmation that God is the ultimate decider. He lived for our nation, he died for our nation,” said Ladoja in his condolence message at Afolabi’s residence. Oyinlola was more philosophical in his approach to the death of the former Deputy Governor to late Bola Ige in the old Oyo State. Said he : “To God be the glory, for the great thing he has done. May your kind and gentle soul rest in eternal peace.” Others who paid tribute included President Olusegun Obasanjo, Senate President Adolphus Wabara, Ogun State Governor Gbenga Daniel, former...(Daily Independent)

BalogunThe Imo State Police Command says it has apprehended the trigger-happy policemen who shot, killed and buried a final year biochemistry student of the Imo State University, Owerri (IMSU). Just as protesting students of the university on Friday demanded the release of the corpse of their slain colleague to the parents for a decent burial or there would be no truce. A statement signed by the... (Daily Independent)

BNW Mohammed Buba MarwaSome powerful ground swell of support for the political ambition of former Lagos State military administrator, Mohammed Buba Marwa, is emerging. It became obvious at the weekend when he was reportedly endorsed by the Northern socio-cultural organisation, ACF, for the 2007 Presidential race. The people of Gumel emirate in Jigawa State have also pledged their loyalty to his “future political ambition.” (Daily Independent)
