Sharia Goes to Plateau: Alli Threatens Execution of Cattle Rustlers
Plateau State Sole Administrator, Maj-Gen. Chris Alli (rtd), has threatened that cattle rustlers and armed bandits caught using the current disturbances in the state to carry out their evil acts would be publicly executed to serve as a deterrent to others. He disclosed this in Jos on Tuesday at a meeting with political party leaders, explaining that under a state of emergency, the power to decide what happens in the state lies with the person in charge. Alli expressed the hope that the people would not force him to use the maximum power at his disposal. “I have seen it all while serving in the military,” he said. He stated that party politics in the state stand suspended and that having listened to the complaints of the political leaders, he would advise them to wait till democratic structures are restored. After a meeting with women groups, he charged them to do every thing within their power to ensure the return of peace in the state. At a meeting with religious leaders, Alli appealed to them to preach peace... (Daily Independent)

BNW Plateau State Gov Joshua DariyeIn his first public statement since the declaration of emergency rule in Plateau state where he was helsman, Chief Joshua Dariye yesterday declared his unflinching loyalty to President Olusegun Obasanjo. Dariye's declaration came on a day two Plateau State indigenes filed a suit challenging the emergency rule and the suspension of the governor. Dariye in a statement said he had resigned to fate to...
