Clandestine pressure from powerful forces that led to the emergency rule in Plateau State has been unearthed, less than two weeks to the anticipated restoration of democracy and, hopefully, Governor Joshua Dariye to the saddle in the home of peace and tourism. And the relative serenity that has enveloped the state since democratic structures were put on ice on May 18 may not endure, if the alarm raised by an interest group has some grain of truth. Besides, Dariye’s return could be a long shot, going by revelations by Jigawa State Governor Saminu Turaki, who has owned up to the major role he and four other Northern governors played which led to the declaration by Aso Rock.
